Whirlyball Rebels

Intro

Welcome to Whirlyball Rebels League!  If you’ve made it this far you probably have an idea of what Whirlyball is and how much fun it can be! But just in case you don’t: 

Whirlyball is played 5 on 5 and has combined elements of basketball, lacrosse and bumper cars. Players use modified track ball scoops to pass and shoot a whiffle ball through an elevated goal.

Our league plays with a few more rules than other groups you might find, including possession clocks.  We use Nationals rules which have been refined over time for fun and competitive play!

Location

We are now hosting leagues at both the Chicago and Vernon Hills locations in the Chicago area.   We have in the past hosted leagues at the Naperville and Lombard locations, so you may have met some of us there.

Open Plays

When we are between leagues, we sometimes have Open Play nights.  This is a great time for beginners to come out and get to know us and the game. Court time is usually 7-9pm and pricing is determined based on the number of people that show up. We utilize our Facebook group to poll interest in an effort to keep costs at $15-$25. We don't generally book until we know we have enough interest.  Please let us know if you are coming out!

League Play 

It is always great to bring friends, but you do not need a team to join. Our League Committee constructs different teams each season with all skill levels in mind. Teams will be designed to have fun and be competitive, with 5 players per team. Please make sure you are on time! Games start promptly at 7pm and end at 9pm. Games will start without you to ensure we can get all games in. If you will not be able to make it please let us know in advance and we will find an appropriate sub.

Season prices vary depending on the length, number of players and time booked. Since our numbers are based on the number of people unfortunately we cannot refund money once season has started. 

You will get approximately 4 (8-10 minute) games per night with added length on playoff night in the form of a double elimination tournament. Every team makes the playoffs regardless of season record.  Check out our current schedule section for upcoming open plays and current season structure.

Subs

During regular leagues, we may have sub spots available.  The cost to sub for the night is $15.  We try to match subs of the same skill level.  

National Tournaments

Some of us play in tournaments or travel to other locations throughout the year for practice. Tournaments are split up by division from beginners to the highest levels of competition and skill. We will have Nationals practices on Monday nights after league play.  If you are interested in Nationals we have several experienced players you can speak to at league or open plays. Bill is our National Players Rep and is usually at every league or open play.
